9. Survived

You growled as Judal sat on the bed in front of you, tossing the blanket away and then caressing your leg. You were patiently waiting for him to speak, remembering your nightmare too well to focus on his touch. Finally Judal kissed your knee and placed his chin on it, staring into your eyes. He resembled a little puppy and you couldn’t help a warm smile.

‘Hakuryuu has changed. Didn’t you have any dream about changes?” he asked you.

‘I dreamt about his family being burned, and that he fell into depravity.’

‘And now?’

As always, you couldn’t lie to him.

‘He was going somewhere, inside a cave, and I was following him. He didn’t even look at me’ you said, stroking Judal’s hair. ‘Everywhere was blood, and he seemed to be shivering with excitement. Finally he joined you and we all left the cave. Outside, there was a war. You two wanted  to kill Kouha when he was helping little children with leaving a collapsing building.’

Judal raised his eyebrow and slapped your hand, so you stopped stroking his hair.

‘I found something’ he said and stood up, walking around the room. ‘It was so obvious, yet I hadn’t thought about it. A fortune-teller. You’re a fortune-teller.’ He stopped and looked at you. His eyes changed suddenly. He was concerned and – you couldn’t believe it – sad. Not disappointed. ‘I made a small research in the town. I met a woman who was forecasting the future. She told me that prophecies can be seen in special conditions. For example, she must touch your hand to see your future. There are prophets who must look into the water, or dream, or hear a certain song… or be under the drug influence’ he smirked and became serious immediately. ‘Some of diviners can see the past and then predict the following happenings.’

You should have felt relieved. You should have been happy and calm. But you panicked and Judal noticed it. His eyes became dark and he started avoiding your look.

‘So what was the meaning of my first nightmares? Of the fire? Of birds? Because, yes, I met you. But there was no fire!’

He bit his lower lip and leaned through the window. You called his name several times, but he didn’t react. You stood up and touched his arm.

‘I had the same question in my mind, so I came back to your village. I asked people about your parents’ he said and slowly turned around to face you. His eyes said the rest. You stepped back, feeling the scar on your neck, pulsing and hurting. You touched it, and trembled with overwhelming emptiness and sadness. Judal caught you before  you had fallen on the floor.

‘So they… got burned?’ you asked faintly, scratching your neck.

‘Two days after we had left’ Judal nodded, feeling uncomfortable with your pain. He was holding you close, letting you cry in his arms. ‘That scar probably means that if I hadn’t taken you with me, you would have died in the fire as well. The skull you dreamt about after Kouha’s story belonged to your father probably, since I found many black rukh above the ashes. And you dreamt about Hakuryuu’s fall into depravity. And about war. They will happen, most likely.’

You started shouting into his chest, kneeling down. He was stroking your back, breathing into your hair. Hakuryuu, alarmed by your shout, entered the room and got surprised by that view. He sat on the bed quietly, exchanging the looks with Judal. Magi pulled you closer and kissed your temple, swaying you like a little child.

Black rukh filled the room.

‘I noticed.’

‘I don’t like it. I’m sure it was Judal’s influence!’

‘I don’t think so… he seemed to be very gentle towards her!’

‘He’s still a bad guy! Even I understand that! Ah, we should have told Kouen not to let her stay alone here!’

‘But we are not able to control her all the time. I wouldn’t like to control my friend at all!’ Kougyoku cried and Kouha closed her mouth with his hand.

‘Shhh! Not that loud!’ He looked around and took his hand away from her mouth. ‘Hakuryuu has changed as well. Overall, the whole atmosphere in this palace… I will say it once again – I don’t like it. I wonder if my brother En noticed  it.’

‘Probably yes. You know, Kouha…’ Kougyoku mused and went to the balcony. She glanced at the sunset and warm colors of the sky and sighed. ‘I feel uneasy when I think about our future.’ She turned around and looked at the third prince, who was standing in the door and looking at the floor.

‘Same, same. The only thing which makes me happy is that Judal keeps (Name) away from Gyokuen. I dislike that woman and I am sure that if she knew about (Name), we all would be in troubles. Great troubles.’

~

Long, black dress was laying about on the sofa and floor, hiding your bare feet. You were leaning against the armrest and reading a book. You’ve finally learnt how to read books. Maybe you needed much more time to read one page than average person, but at least you were able to enjoy the stories. Listening to Judal’s advice, you chose the best book you could have ever read. It was an evening already and the flames were playing on the wood in the fireplace. A moth was flying around, disturbing you from time to time.

You pretended not to hear him entering the room.
You pretended not to feel him sitting next to your feet.

‘Your dress is too long’ he said in a husky voice, slowly sliding it up your legs, till he reached your thighs. Then you looked at him and smiled. ‘Don’t interrupt yourself’ he whispered as he placed your feet on his laps and started stroking them. You shrugged and looked at the book again. His fingers were running up and down your legs, stroking your toes and heels, and galling your nerves. You couldn’t focus on the book anymore. He placed your left foot on his arm and kissed your ankle, then moved his lips along your warm skin till he reached your thigh and left two hickeys on its inner side. You placed your right leg on the backrest of the sofa and closed your eyes, letting a tiny gasp leave your mouth.

The book fell on the ground, closed.

I wonder if it should contain Mature Content, since your family died and you fell into depravity kissing legs is something normal, right? xD
